Chichester Close

Chichester Close is an existing dwelling elevated above Instow with panoramic coastal views, incentivising it’s re-imagination into a home which not only maximises the coastal location but adds architectural value through high quality design and construction.

Project Location: Instow, North Devon

Project Size: 326m2

Service: Concept design to technical

Completion: Est Dec 2023

The project involves the demolition of the low quality 1970s property, in favour of its replacement with a building with longevity, architectural merit and a case study for sustainability. The proposed building takes fabric first approach with a high performing envelope that’s extremely well insulated, air tight and triple glazed. The fabric accompanied with sustainable building technologies such as MVHR, Solar PV and battery, ASHP create the possibility for a highly sustainable home with minimal monthly bills.
While the site sits directly behind two grade II listed villas, the design is unapologetically contemporary and juxtaposes the appearance of the nearby listed buildings. It’s emphasis on floor to ceiling glazing captures the vista and pulls it into the first floor living areas, which connects seamlessly out onto a raised terrace with oversailing roof and outdoor fire.
